About Our Group

The current group "Whips Garters and Guns" is the brainstorm of Movie Stuntman J. D. Hennings.

The Original group he was in was formed in California in 1964, by movie and tv stuntman Dick Shane and its name was "Shane Combined Stunt Shows, Inc.  Jay worked with the Shane brothers Dick and Choya, Rick Duggan, Monty Laird, cowgirl Terry McComas, Andy and John Eversoll, Scott Gorley, Gary Edwards, Lance Rimmer, Gray and Ray Johnson, Jim Banner,
Skeeter Vaughn & Becky and many others in "Live Shows" at notable locations, including  "Knotts Berry Farm" California "6 Flags Magic Mountain" California and "Circus, Circus Hotel Casino" in Las Vegas Nevada and the "Hacienda Hotel Casino Trail Ride for the Cancer Research Foundation".

During the film season, Jay worked with Dick Shane on the tv series "The Virginian" in which Shane was the stunt double for the lead actor, James Drury.  After leaving the series, when Dick Shane left, JD formed the 2nd group of performers under the WG&G Banner.

Jay did the Western Stunt Show on the 20th Century Fox, Studio Tour with Lance Rimmer
and father son team Gray and Ray Johnson while during the filming season working other tv
westerns including "The Big Valley" and "The Wild Wild West".

Jay, Lance and Gray later worked the Dick Shane established Universal Studio Tours Stunt Show in the newly built stunt arena at the "upper lot" in 1972.  The show also included Jim Banner, Arnold Roberts, Joe Pronto and Gary Edwards, Hank Calia, Stephan Burnett and others.

The Group changed over to JD's Banner (Whips Garters and Guns) for stage shows based in Las Vegas, done primarily in the movie "off season" and consisted of a smaller crew of 2 to 5 performers in which JD did his on stage whip act, from 1974 though 1980. During the filming season JD stayed active in tv and features, doing photo double and stunts for many non-western
productions.

From 1980 through 2001 JD. had a full stunt crew, again, doing  "Live action Wild West Stunt Shows", in California, Arizona, Texas and Nevada.

Since his relocation to Wisconsin, in 2002, JD has participated in several groups, located in Chicago,  Michigan and Wisconsin, but found the "Reenactor" groups too limiting and wanted to get back to doing real stunts with a more professional atmosphere.

"WG&G" is located in his new home town of New London, Wisconsin and   consists of all new cast members and promotional staff.

The group is a Not for Profit  organization that donates all funds, above operational costs, to charity.

Geared towards family entertainment, the show  provides an inside look into how stunts are done in western movies, complete with "saloon brawls, axe handle and knife fights, gunfights" and of course the "high fall".  Also in the show is a "Gun Safety" demonstration, shooting exhibition"  and JD's specialty Bull Whip demonstrations.  The show is an Action Adventure for the whole family.

The Show averages  30 to 40 min and has very familiar props such as  "break-a-way" bottles and "bullet hit" effects, in the set dressing and props.
